The new Toroid Measuring Current Transformer (CT) supports a broad range of primary currents from 100 A up to 1000 A with standardized secondary outputs of 1 A or 5 A, making it ideal for modern electrical monitoring applications that demand precision and durability. Designed to operate at standard power frequencies (50–60 Hz) and rated to support burden voltages from 0.1 VA up to 25 VA, the product delivers consistent performance in both metering and protection systems.

“Our Toroid Measuring CT builds on Astrodyne TDI’s legacy of precision transformer design,” said Jessica Love, General Manager of the Transformer Business Unit. “By combining robust electrical specifications, industry-standard accuracy, and versatility, we’re offering engineers and integrators a solution that enhances system safety, reliability, and performance,  whether it’s deployed in utility switchgear, data centers, or mission-critical power systems.”

Engineered for Precision and Reliability

The Toroid Measuring CT meets key electrical standards and features:

  • Accuracy classes from 0.1 to 0.2s, ensuring reliable performance for protective relaying and metering applications.
  • High dielectric strength and 10 kV Basic Impulse Level (BIL) insulation to withstand electrical stress in demanding environments.
  • Compliance with IEC 61869-2 and IEEE C57.13 standards, supporting global deployment and engineering interoperability.
  • Compact, toroidal design that minimizes magnetic leakage and error while maintaining rugged physical durability.

These design characteristics translate into dependable current measurement across low- and medium-voltage systems, enabling precise monitoring in environments where safety and control are paramount.

Wide Application Footprint

The Toroid Measuring Current Transformer is suited for a variety of applications, including:

  • Utility switchgear and distribution systems
  • Industrial power monitoring and control panels
  • LV and MV switchboard metering
  • Data centers and critical infrastructure environments
  • OEM-level electrical equipment requiring accurate CT integration

By delivering reliable performance over a wide operating range, the new Toroid CT supports both traditional metering applications and advanced protection schemes that respond to dynamic electrical system demands.
