Collaborating with a medical bed manufacturer, Astrodyne TDI faced multiple power-related challenges. A key requirement was to ensure sufficient isolation between the primary and secondary circuits. Additionally, the design needed a low leakage current and an integrated thermal switch. Compliance with 60601-1 testing standards was essential. The manufacturer also emphasized the importance of minimizing electromagnetic interference (EMI). Securing safety certifications like UL, cUL for 60601-1, and CE marking, along with 2MOPP (Means of Patient Protection), was necessary to ensure patient safety. It was crucial to maintain specific insulation, creepage, clearance distances, and dielectric strength of 4kV between the primary and secondary circuits. High efficiency was another critical element that had to be incorporated into the design.
